“Let them be who THEY want to be.”

We found these wonderful drawings on illustrator and character designer Kathryn Wilkins’ Tumblr blog. Our very own Anya was teased at school for wearing a Spider-Man shirt, because “superheroes are for boys.” So the drawings resonated with us.

On her Facebook page, Kathryn writes:

Don’t try to force your kids into a box. Don’t tell them they shouldn’t wear a costume or clothing because kids will make fun of them. Teach them to be strong and to be fearlessly themselves. Teach them to love who they are, not hide it for the sake of blending in. Self love is powerful and you should encourage your kids to be who they really are, not who you want them to be.

Happy Halloween!

Everyone needs a hero to look up to, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect. Hats off to Kathryn for illustrating that simple fact so elegantly and beautifully.
