‘Ms. Marvel’ Movie Is ‘Definitely in the Works’

The teen Muslim hero is headed to the big screen according to studio head Kevin Feige.

In an interview with a Middle Eastern reporter for the BBC, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige dropped a bombshell: the studio has plans for everyone’s favorite teen hero Ms. Marvel.

Captain Marvel is shooting right now with Brie Larson. Ms. Marvel which is another character in the comics … the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel is definitely, sort of “in the works.” We have plans for that once we introduce Captain Marvel to the world.

OH MY GOD! It’s happening! It is not a drill! We’ve been thrilled as Kamala has turned up in video games, LEGO sets and the occasional cartoon. But the casual announcement that there are movie plans for the pioneering Muslim hero came seemingly out of nowhere.

Marvel has been very tight lipped regarding what we can expect in their “Phase 4” movie slate, refusing to release titles until after next year’s Avengers 4. But it looks like we can add one title to the mystery list:

Ms. Marvel

Pakistani-American teen Kamala Khan idolized her hero Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel. When her Inhuman genes are activated by the terrigen mists, Kamala develops superhuman powers that she uses to protect her hometown of Jersey City as Ms. Marvel.

‘Infinity War’ Director Confirms Valkyrie’s Fate

He revealed the fate of Valkyrie, the Asgardians and other SPOILERS during a high-school Q&A.

When you have a movie with as many moving parts as Avengers: Infinity War, there will always be some loose threads lying around. While the film featured an unprecedented number of superheroes, there were noticeable absences. Where were the missing heroes?

Hawkeye and Ant-Man were evidently under “house arrest.” But no one even mentioned fan-favorite Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson in Thor: Ragnarok.

More distressingly,Thanos killed Loki and Heimdall and dozens of others before ripping the Asgardians ship apart in the opening scene, leaving Thor as the only survivor…

…or so it seemed.

Reddit users MaxPiper4 and Anewthrowaway_quest revealed that Infinity War director Joe Russo came to their school for a Q&A, and gave everyone a little more information about the events in the movie.

He confirmed that many Asgardians had managed to make it to escape pods, so Thor’s people live yet. More importantly, he confirmed that fan-favorite Valkyrie was one of the survivors.

Other tidbits revealed in the Q&A:

  • Tom Holland improvised his dramatic death scene at the end of the film;
  • He heavily hinted that Dr. Strange gave Thanos the Time Stone because “it was the only way” to achieve victory;
  • The title of Avengers 4 will not be released anytime soon;
  • He refused to confirm that Korg was still alive; and
  • The attack on Xandar was done off-screen to save time and to avoid repetition.

Earlier in the week, Tessa Thompson had her own explanation as to where Valkyrie was during the action. She had turned into a goat being cared for by Bucky Barnes in Wakanda.

This was a reference to the wonderfully absurd @tessasgoats Twitter account, which finds and tweets photos of goats that look like the talented actress.

‘Black Widow’ Solo Movie Finally Off the Ground at Marvel

Marvel hires screenwriter to pen to solo adventures of the female Avenger.

After years of idle speculation and even more idle lip service, Marvel has finally taken the first concrete steps towards making the Black Widow solo movie a reality. According to Variety, screenwriter Jac Schaeffer has been hired to draft a script for Natasha Romanov’s solo adventures.

Schaeffer was chosen by Marvel Studios Kevin Feige after interviewing several candidates and sitting down with star Scarlett Johansson to discuss what she would like to see in a Widow solo film. Johansson has played the Russian super-spy in six films so far, and will reprise the character yet again in this summer’s Avengers: Infinity War.

Schaeffer is a Hollywood up-and-comer. Her Black List script The Shower, about an alien invasion that occurs during a baby shower, caught the eye of a-list star Anne Hathaway, who quickly attached herself to the project. She is currently working on Nasty Women, a female led take on the classic screwball comedy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, also starring Hathaway.

Fans have been clamoring for a Widow solo movie pretty much since the character first appeared in 2010’s Iron Man 2. Their voices have been amplified by a growing list of stars that have also thrown their weight behind the project, including Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Chris Evans, the Russo Brothers — and most recently — Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi.

“In all honesty, I reckon I could probably bring something pretty unique to any of the franchises,” Waititi told Gizmodo. “So I’d love to see Black Widow. [I’d like to see] Black Widow as something crazy and a bit funnier than we expect it to be,” he continued. “Because we know her story and it’s very sullen and very dark and her history is very dark. But! What’s the funny version of that? What’s the more entertaining version of that?”

Waititi seems like a crazy choice for a character like Black Widow, but after seeing what he accomplished with Thor, Marvel should probably at least give him some consideration. At any rate, after years of waiting, it finally seems like Black Widow is on the move.

Check Out the First Photos of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel

She’s got the suit, but the not the colors.

The first real photos of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel were captured by Page Six yesterday, but while the costume design is spot on in terms of design, the color scheme? Not so much.

The  familiar red and gold accents on the mightiest Avenger’s costume have been replaced with various shades of teal.

Captain Mar-ell and Captain Marvel

The departure from the traditional look is pretty significant — but we’re guessing that this is not her final costume. More likely it is the first version of the suit that she gets from the alien Kree. It has the familiar Kree Hala star on the chest that Danvers keeps to remind her of her namesake and source of her powers, the Kree hero Mar-Vell, in the comics. While we will undoubtedly be getting an abbreviated version of Danvers’ long and tumultuous origins in the movie, Jude Law has been cast as Mar-Vell so it’s a safe bet that who she gets her name and powers from will remain relatively intact.

If you are still disappointed that we didn’t get a glimpse of the final costume, well, that’s what photoshop is for.

Enjoy.

Brie Larson Preparing for ‘Captain Marvel’ by Touring Air-Force Base

Readying for role as an ace pilot and Air Force officer.

Production on Captain Marvel is set to begin literally any day now, but Brie Larson isn’t waiting to start getting into the role. Photos of the actor visiting Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada surfaced on Instagram this weekend, showing Larsen touring the facility where she also checked out the F-15 fighter jet.

Captain Marvel’s civilian identity is Carol Danvers, an ace pilot who joined the Air Force at the age of 18, and quickly rose through the ranks to become a major. (If Avengers 4 fails to mention that Carol technically outranks Captain America, it will be a missed opportunity.) Larsen appears to be taking the time before shooting begins to familiarize herself with Air Force life and the military jets that Danvers pilots.

In the comics, Danvers finds herself imbued with incredible powers after an encounter with the alien Kree and takes on the mantle of “Captain Marvel, Earth’s Mightiest Hero.”

Captain Marvel will premiere on March 6, 2019, and will appear again a few months later in the untitled Avengers 4 movie on May 3, 2019.

Watch Gal Gadot’s Inspiring Speech from the Critics’ Choice Awards

The Wonder Woman star is the second-ever recipient of the #SeeHer Award.

After inexplicably failing to get a single nomination at the Golden Globes, it was beginning to feel like the industry was going to ignore the groundbreaking Wonder Woman, and the women who brought her to life.  All that changed last Thursday when Wonder Woman took home the Critics’ Choice Award for “Best Action Movie,” and star Gal Gadot was awarded the second ever #SeeHer Award.

From the Critics Choice Awards website:

The #SeeHer Award recognizes a woman who embodies the values set forth by the #SeeHer movement — to push boundaries on changing stereotypes and recognize the importance of accurately portraying women across the entertainment landscape. Gadot broke through this year as a powerful voice advocating for women, not only on screen as the iconic Wonder Woman, but in life as well, using her platform to encourage those in the entertainment industry and beyond to strive for fairness and parity across genders.

Gadot was presented the award by Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins, and talked about what the character of Wonder Woman meant to her. She ended by promising to stand up and never be silent on behalf of those who can’t stand or speak for themselves.

Sounds like a superhero to me.

Throughout my career, I was always asked to describe my dream role. And it was clear to me that I wanted to portray a strong and independent woman—a real one. The irony in this is that later, I was cast as Wonder Woman, and all of these qualities I looked for, I found in her. She’s full of heart, strength, compassion, and forgiveness. She sees wrong that must be made right; she takes action when everyone around her is idle. She commands the attention of the world. And in doing so, she sets a positive example for humanity.

Wonder Woman also struggles with her own love and hopes, she gets confused, insecure, and she’s not perfect. And that’s what makes her real. We wanted her to be universal, to be an inspiration to all people all around the world, and our plan was to make sure we didn’t give too much attention to the fact that she’s a woman.

The whole process of creating this film inspired me, and I hope we managed to inspire others. Now, when I started acting, there were very few female-led movies, and even fewer female directors. This year, three of the top-grossing films were female-led, and one of them was directed by my wonderful Patty Jenkins. There were eight other films in [the] top 100 which were directed by females. So although this is progress, there is still a long way to go.

Patty just shared an anecdote with me. And she said someone told her that his three-year-old saw the movie, and when the movie ended, the boy said, “When I grow up, I want to be a woman!” So as artists, and as filmmakers, I believe it’s not only our job to entertain, but our duty to inspire and educate for love and respect.

In the past weeks and months, we’ve been witnessing a movement in our industry and society, and I want to share this award with all the women and men who stand for what’s right: Standing for those who can’t stand or speak for themselves. My promise and commitment to all of you is that I will never be silenced, and we will continue: band together to make strides, uniting for equality.

Gal Gadot Confirms Brett Ratner Is Out on ‘Wonder Woman 2’

The actress tells the Today Show that Ratner is no longer associated with the  planned sequel.

Gal Gadot appeared on the Today Show this morning and addressed rumors that she had refused to reprise the role of Wonder Woman if director/producer/sexual predator Brett Ratner was allowed to return as a financier. While she confirmed that Ratner was definitely gone, she downplayed her own personal involvement in the decision.

“The truth is, there’s so many people involved in making this movie—it’s not just me—and they all echoed the same sentiments,” Gadot told Savannah Guthrie. “You know what I mean? So everyone knew what was the right thing to do, but there was nothing for me to actually come and say because it was already done before this article came out.”

This caps an incredibly crappy week for serial molester Ratner, who had his Hugh Hefner biopic cancelled and lost his development deal with Warner Bros.We were unable to muster the slightest bit of sympathy for the serial sex offender/Hollywood mogul. We tried really hard.

Honest.
