It’s all but official: there will be a sequel to the 2016 reboot of the Ghostbusters franchise.

Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon will be suiting up and answering the call for Sony again, according to Rory Bruer, president of worldwide distribution at Sony Pictures.

“The ‘Ghostbusters’ world is alive and well,” he told TheWrap on Sunday. “I expect ‘Ghostbusters’ to become an important brand and franchise.”

“While nothing has been officially announced yet, there’s no doubt in my mind it will happen,” he added.

Ghostbusters opened with a respectable — if not spectacular — $46 million opening weekend, coming is second to The Secret Lives of Pets. But that $46 million was also the highest grossing live-action comedy in more than a year, and it should easily become the highest grossing Paul Feig/Melissa McCarthy collaboration.

Evidently, solid numbers like that are enough for Sony to greenlight a sequel. Which is great news for anyone who wants to see more of Kate McKinnon’s Holtzmann — which is pretty much everyone, I think.
