Doctor Who Season 11 Trailer Released

BBC America has posted the first trailer for the “series 11” of sci-fi staple Doctor Who, after premiering it at San Diego Comic Con on Thursday.

The upcoming season will be the first time in the show’s 55-year history where the main protagonist, “The Doctor,” will be played by a woman. — the always excellent Jodie Whittaker (Broadchurch).

The Doctor is the last of an immortal race of Time Lords. She protects the galaxy from all manner of alien threats, but has a peculiar affinity for the denizens of a backwater planet called “Earth.” When a Time Lord dies she (or he) “regenerates” into a new physical appearance with a slightly different personality. At the end of the last season, the Doctor regenerated into a woman for the very first time.

Doctor Who Series 11 will be shown on BBC America in the fall of 2018.

We had a special photographer this year at San Diego Comic Con.

Anya took over photography duties for the first time and put together this gallery of her cosplay photos.

But since there were two days that Anya cosplayed, her uncle Steve took some photos as well.

“Raising Heroic Girls” – The Comic-Con Panel

Heroic Girls had the honor of presenting their very first panel at San Diego Comic-Con last week, Raising Heroic Girls. Heroic Girls founder John Marcotte moderated the panel which consisted of a variety of experts from the comics and geek community including: Alaina Huffman (Supernatural, Smallville, Stargate SGU), Anya Marcotte (Heroic Girls), Audrey Kearns (Geek Girl Authority), Cassandra Pelham (Scholastic Books, Comix), Janina Scarlet (Superhero Therapy), Jenna Busch (Legion of Leia), We were also joined by Janina’s son Hunter, who wanted to show his support for girls, from a boys’ point of view.

We have some photos from the event, followed by a video at the end.

We did take video … but since we could not plug into the soundboard, the audio turned out horribly. We are attempting to clean it up, but it may be a “fatal error.” At any rate, How to Be A Dad superstar Charlie Capen streamed a good chunk of the panel via Periscope, and you can watch that here.

Edit: Charlie’s Periscope video expired. We are working on reducing the echo in the video we have, and we will post it shortly. In the mean time, enjoy this animated GIF of Gal Gadot.

We will certainly be doing this again at SDCC or other cons around the country. Hopefully, we will see some of you there!

Wonder Woman Trailer Debuts at SDCC – and It Is Awesome!

Warner Bros. debuted the trailer for next year’s Wonder Woman during their massive presentation in San Diego Comic Con’s fabled Hall H. Director Patty Jenkins talked to the standing-room only crowd about how important the character of Wonder Woman was as a superhero and an icon.

Wonder Woman, starring Israeli actress Gal Gadot, follows the Amazon as she meets pilot Steve Trevor (Chris Pine)  and follows him back to man’s world in an effort to bring peace in the midst of World War I. Wonder Woman opens in the summer on 2017 and we simply cannot wait.

Clark Gregg’s mad lip-sync skills make Hayley Atwell Cry at SDCC

The casts and crews of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter have an excellent friendly rivalry going on. That rivalry kicked into high gear this weekend at San Diego Comic Con when both crews entered into a “dubsmashwar,” lip-syncing to small clips of popular songs on social-media site Instagram. Fans were encouraged to follow #TeamCarter or #TeamShield.

We’re pretty big Agent Carter fans here at Heroic Girls, so trust me when I say Clark Gregg and #TeamShield killed it.

Here are a few of our favorites from the battle:

These brutal attacks by #TeamShield made Agent Carter star Hayley Atwell cry.
