Preview: Kate Bishop Is Right on Target in ‘Hawkeye #1’

It’s the other Hawkeye’s chance to shine in her first ongoing solo series.

Clint Barton, the original Hawkeye died a while back. The Scarlet Witch killed him. While Barton was busy being dead, a new Hawkeye sprung up: Kate Bishop, a cocky teen heiress who foiled a kidnapping attempt with the help of a bow and arrow. She joined the Young Avengers and quickly became a fan favorite.

Comics being what they are — Barton got better. But rather than discarding Bishop Marvel decided there was no reason there couldn’t be two Hawkeyes. Kate became a fixture in Matt Fraction’s superlative Hawkeye series (a.k.a. the best superhero series ever made.) Starting as a support character, Kate eventually graduated to co-lead protagonist of the book. When Jeff  Lemire took the reins for a new Hawkeye series, he kept Kate around.

But now, in the wake of the events of Civil War II, Clint Barton is no longer using a superhero moniker, so Kate Bishop is the the one and only Hawkeye in a new series
