Janelle Monae Wants To Play Storm

Ever since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, and with them the rights to the X-Men franchise, people have been wondering when and how Marvel will integrate the heroic mutant outcasts into the MCU.

Multi-talented singer, actor, model, Janelle Monae doesn’t know the “when” or the “how” — but she does know the “who.” When Marvel does bring the X-Men into the MCU, she wants to play Storm.

In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Monae said, “One of my dreams has always been to play Storm. I don’t know if she comes in Black Panther, but it would be a dream to have her in it. I don’t know where they are with that. A lot of women have played Storm and they’ve done an exceptional job, and I would love to be in that line of artists and get to do Storm justice.”

Monae got a peek into the Marvel Universe when she was in Atlanta recording her acclaimed album Dirty Computer at the same time Director Ryan Coogler was filming Black Panther across town. Lupita Nyong’o, Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan all visited Monae’s Wondaland studio to get an early preview of the album.

One way that Storm could be introduced to the MCU is through the Black Panther sequel. In the comics, Storm is Kenyan royalty who marries T’Challa and becomes the queen of Wakanda for a period in the book.

Although Monae has been mentioned as a possibility for Storm before, Marvel currently has no announced plans to bring the X-Men to the MCU.
