According to an anonymous set of photos is making the rounds on Imgur, a Wonder Woman lunch box has been deemed “too violent” by a puritanical and wrong-headed dress code at a little girl’s school.
The lunch box violated the school’s policy against “violent characters,” which the school defined as “those who solve problems using violence.”
This overly broad definition would include not only comic books, but most fairy tales and a pretty good chunk of classic literature as well, but that’s what happens when you substitute a “zero tolerance” policy for common sense and reasonable judgement.
Perhaps the school doesn’t need Wonder Woman’s considerable prowess in battle, but is seems obvious they could use a little of the “wisdom of Athena” that Diana was blessed with at birth.
Full text of the letter follows.
Dear Daniel and Sarah,
We noticed that Lauren has a Wonder Woman lunchbox that features a super hero image. In keeping with the dress code of the school, we must ask that she not bring this to the school.
The dress code we have established requires that the children not bring violent images into the building in any fashion. — on their clothing (including shoes and socks), backpacks and lunchboxes. We have defined “violent characters” as those who solve problems using violence. Super heroes certainly fall into that category.
Please refer to the dress code section in School Handbook.
Your cooperation with our dress code will be appreciated.
