Wear Your Superheroes Day – October 1st

Wear your Superheroes DayA friend just sent us a link to an event created by two young girls after our own hearts. I’ll let their father explain.

Leanna is a 5-year-old girl who loves superheroes. When she wears her superhero clothes to kindergarten, though, the boys tell her that superheroes are “for boys.” She has even started to wear her jacket all day to keep from being hassled about it. (For the record, princesses aren’t “for girls,” either.)

Her 7-year-old sister Adalina has declared Wednesday, Oct. 1, to be Wear Your Superheroes Day. Boys and girls who believe superheroes are for EVERYONE should wear their superhero stuff on Wednesday and post a picture with the hashtag #WearYourSuperheroes. Solidarity!

Share the event on Facebook and Twitter to spread the word!

Heroic Girls is behind this event 110%, and we hope it becomes an annual occurrence. Please participate and help spread the word that superheroes are for girls, too.

  1. AWESOME! When is Princesses day? My son LOVES everything princesses, and princess clothing is his favorite … far above anything considered ‘boy’. This warms my heart to see this happening — I feel like it’s getting better for girls, but we still have a way to go to destroy gender stereotypes. By and large my son still gets a lot of ridicule for liking something typically ‘girl’ even though it makes him extremely happy. I’ll never force him to like something he just doesn’t because of society.

    1. The parents of the girls have said that the day is about wearing what you want — no matter who your heroes are. So let those princesses fly!
