Check Out the First Photos of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel

She’s got the suit, but the not the colors.

The first real photos of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel were captured by Page Six yesterday, but while the costume design is spot on in terms of design, the color scheme? Not so much.

The  familiar red and gold accents on the mightiest Avenger’s costume have been replaced with various shades of teal.

Captain Mar-ell and Captain Marvel

The departure from the traditional look is pretty significant — but we’re guessing that this is not her final costume. More likely it is the first version of the suit that she gets from the alien Kree. It has the familiar Kree Hala star on the chest that Danvers keeps to remind her of her namesake and source of her powers, the Kree hero Mar-Vell, in the comics. While we will undoubtedly be getting an abbreviated version of Danvers’ long and tumultuous origins in the movie, Jude Law has been cast as Mar-Vell so it’s a safe bet that who she gets her name and powers from will remain relatively intact.

If you are still disappointed that we didn’t get a glimpse of the final costume, well, that’s what photoshop is for.

Enjoy.

Brie Larson Preparing for ‘Captain Marvel’ by Touring Air-Force Base

Readying for role as an ace pilot and Air Force officer.

Production on Captain Marvel is set to begin literally any day now, but Brie Larson isn’t waiting to start getting into the role. Photos of the actor visiting Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada surfaced on Instagram this weekend, showing Larsen touring the facility where she also checked out the F-15 fighter jet.

Captain Marvel’s civilian identity is Carol Danvers, an ace pilot who joined the Air Force at the age of 18, and quickly rose through the ranks to become a major. (If Avengers 4 fails to mention that Carol technically outranks Captain America, it will be a missed opportunity.) Larsen appears to be taking the time before shooting begins to familiarize herself with Air Force life and the military jets that Danvers pilots.

In the comics, Danvers finds herself imbued with incredible powers after an encounter with the alien Kree and takes on the mantle of “Captain Marvel, Earth’s Mightiest Hero.”

Captain Marvel will premiere on March 6, 2019, and will appear again a few months later in the untitled Avengers 4 movie on May 3, 2019.

Women of Marvel Enter the ‘Rock Candy’ Collectible Line

After a successful launch with DC’s female heroes,  Funko’s Rock Candy line of 5″ vinyl figures has expanded to include heroines from the Marvel universe. The initial Marvel lineup consists of Captain Marvel, She Hulk, Spider-Gwen and Thor — with a hooded Spider-Gwen variant exclusive to Hot Topic and a glow-in-the-dark She Hulk that can only be found at Walmart.

The Marvel Rock Candy line up will hit retailers in December. I know what I want in my stocking…

Margot Robbie to Produce Harley Quinn Standalone Film

Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, the stand-out star from this summer’s Suicide Squad, is getting her own solo movie in a deal announced just yesterday.

Margot Robbie’s terrifyingly beautiful rendition of Quinn will be making its way to the big screen in a standalone movie, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Robbie is “signing a first-look deal with the studio behind her summer hit Suicide Squad to develop and produce feature films through her LuckyChap Entertainment banner.” She will also be the executive producer of the film.

The twenty-six year-old Aussie actress has been championing the Harley solo film since before Suicide Squad made its summer release. “I’m trying to make it happen,” Robbie said in an interview with Tipsy Talk, “there’s just so much more to do.”

If it were up to Robbie, she’d play the Clown Queen of Crime forever.

“There’s so much you can do,” she told ComicBook.com, “They’re the sort of characters that you could keep exploring and find so many more, so much more to do.”

Here’s to hoping that the film will fare better than the critically mauled Suicide Squad — which director David Ayer reportedly only had six weeks to rewrite after Warner Bros. made various large cuts to his first go at the film.

While the DC Extended Universe has fared poorly from with the critics, it has been making money for Warner Bros., and the female heroes have been bright spots in otherwise poorly reviewed films. Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman was considered by many to be the best thing in Batman vs. Superman, and director Patty Jenkins. is finishing up post production on the Amazonian princess’s solo movie right now.

Wonder Woman will be the first female-led superhero movie set in the modern DC or Marvel universes, but she won’t be alone for long. Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson will be Marvel Studio’s first female led superhero film, and now Harley Quinn is joining the fun.

The buzz on all of these movies is good so far, But female superhero fans are crossing their fingers. After high-profile failures such as Catwoman and Elektra 20 years ago, Hollywood gave up on female-led superhero movies for two decades. If Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel are anything short of spectacular, we might not see another female superhero film for a generation.

Luckily, these kick-butt ladies — powered by female writers, actors and directors — are more than up to the task

Artist Shows Us What Brie Larson Might Look Like As Captain Marvel

Ever since she was officially announced as Captain Marvel, we’ve been wondering how Brie Larson would look in Carol’s red, blue and yellow jumpsuit. According to Internet rumors, there’s a pretty good chance we are going to find out sometime in Avengers: Infinity War, which is rumored to have a Captain Marvel cameo. But that’s still a long ways away.

Thanks to Internet artist BossLogic‘s mad Photoshop skills, we don’t have to wonder what she will look like anymore. He created these awesome images of Larson in Captain Marvel’s costume, and he threw in Carol’s trademark mohawk as a bonus.

Here’s hoping she looks as awesome in the movie as she does in these pics.

This isn’t BossLogic’s first take on Larsen as Captain Marvel. Back when rumors of her involvement first surfaced, he did an earlier Photoshop of the Room actress in Carol’s costume — but we like the new ones even better.

Brie Larson Confirmed to Play Captain Marvel

It’s official. Brie Larson, fresh off of her Academy Award winning performance in Room, will suit up as Carol Danvers, a/k/a Captain Marvel, the Earth’s Mightiest Hero, for the Marvel Studios movie of the same name. Captain Marvel will be the 21st movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the first to place a female hero as the primary lead.

Captain MarvelLarson is a top indie actress with an amazing resume, but she also dipped her toes in the comic book world by playing the femme fatale “Envy Adams” in the cult classic Scott Pilgrim vs the World based on the comic series by Brian Lee O’Malley.

While Captain Marvel doesn’t debut until 2019, fans may not have to wait that long to catch sight of Marvel’s premiere female superhero. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is up in 2017, and Danvers gets her powers from an encounter with the alien Kree — so a cameo with Marvel’s intergalactic misfits is not out of the  question.

Additionally Avengers Infinity War: Part 1 comes out in 2018. In the comics, Danvers has been a core member of several Avengers’ teams over the years. Introducing her in Part 1 would be an excellent way to raise awareness of the character leading into her solo film.

So while Captain Marvel may not be released for three years, there is an pretty good chance that we will get to see the titular hero much sooner.
