Anna Diop, who plays the alien superhero Starfire on the live-action Titans television show set to premiere on DC’s new streaming service, has disabled commenting on her Instagram posts. The Senegal-born actress was repeatedly attacked with vile, racist comments after the first trailer for Titans dropped earlier this week.

Diop is just the latest women and person of color to be attacked by racist trolls via social media. Star Wars actress Kelly Tran recently deleted all of her social media accounts after being inundated with racist and misogynistic comments. Daisy Ridley also quit social media after so-called fans harassed her in the most disgusting manner possible.
It should be abundantly clear by now that toxic fandom is a major problem in geek culture, as a segment of male fans constantly fall prey to the worst possible stereotypes about misogynistic, misanthropic geeks.
