Victoria Jamieson’s empowering coming-of-age story Roller Girl,  one of Heroic Girls Best Books of 2015, has won a prestigious 2016 Newbery Award Honor — the only comic or graphic novel to be so honored this year.

The Newbery Medal and Newbery Honors are awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the authors of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.

The Newbery Medal was named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery
